Art Therapy (ATR) Supervision

I absolutely love working with clinicians who are looking to obtain hours towards their Registered Art Therapist (ATR) credentials. To obtain your ATR, 50 of the 100 hours of supervision must come from a Board Certified Art Therapist. We can work together to help you accrue those hours, whether you need 1 hour or the full 100 hours! With the changes effective July 2024 we can also work to get you your ATR-P if needed. If you already have your ATR-P we can still work together to accrue your hours, and as of right now you do not have to do any forms or changes to you current ATR-P when you change or add a supervisor.

My style of supervision follows an empowerment model to best support your needs. This is a shame free space to freely talk about what is coming up not only for you, but with your clients.

Our work together can include:

  • Setting goals for what you want your supervision to look like and what is expected of both the supervisee and supervisor

  • How to navigate your case load

  • How to integrate creative interventions into your work, both in person and via telehealth

  • Developing creative and uniquely tailored interventions for specific clients

  • How to talk about Art Therapy in your place of work and with your clients

  • How to manage self care and burnout

  • How to set boundaries professionally

  • Collaborative creative problem solving

  • Clinical documentation

  • Ethical discussions

  • Establishing culturally aware, inclusive, and informed practice

  • Art making during or in-between supervision meetings

  • And much more!

I am based in Connecticut and can offer in person or video based supervision for your ATR hours. Because the ATR is a national credential I am able to supervise hours for anyone working towards their ATR, so please don’t hesitate to reach out even if you are in a different state!

If you already have your ATR but are looking for further supervision or consultation, we can also do that in person or virtually! Post licensure supervision is still so important in our field and can greatly contribute to our growth as art therapists.

If you work for an agency or job that does not offer supervision for your ATR hours, I encourage you to ask them if they will help you pay for those hours if they cannot provide them. I have worked with many employers who will either pay me directly or reimburse you (partially or fully)! Employers often love that we have the credentials for art therapy and use it in their marketing and with clients, so don’t hesitate to ask them to help you get your hours.

Investment: $90 per one-hour session, but I do offer a sliding scale for new clinicians

Creative Clinical Consultation

My background as a Board Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor allows me to have a clinical and creative approach to therapy and supervision/consultation. While I value Art Therapy and the field’s training and background, I also believe that all therapists can incorporate an appropriate level of creativity in the work they do. It’s important to note that you don’t need to have any artistic skills to utilize a creative approach. A creative therapeutic approach encapsulates what some might call “out-of-the-box” techniques and thinking, but I consider them to be inclusive and open ideas to meet clients where they are at. Individual consultation is utilized on an as-needed basis if you are looking to consult on a specific case or to introduce some creative techniques into your therapeutic approach.

Our work together can include:

  • Clarifying with providers what art therapy is vs therapeutic art making

  • Helping clinicians who feel stuck or who need new interventions and creative approaches to treatment

  • Providing creative, uniquely tailored interventions and ideas in an ethical and license appropriate way

  • Helping providers to better serve clients and offer creative approaches to treatment, which will in turn help clients have access to non-standard approaches to therapy

  • Providing creative problem solving and education for building a private practice

  • Empowering clinicians to utilize different (license appropriate) interventions and feel comfortable straying from the typical therapy box and meeting clients where they are at

  • Helping clinicians explore new ways to best serve their clients but also stay in their scope of practice in a supportive and empowering way

  • Empowering clinicians understand when to make a referral to an art therapist vs when to introduce therapeutic art making and other creative approaches

Individual supervision and consultation is not just for pre-licensed clinicians. I strongly believe that every therapist in private practice should still be seeking supervision, and I am happy to help in that process! We all need to discuss cases, trouble shoot, and discuss the work that we cannot freely share with others in our lives.

I am based in Connecticut and offer supervision for LPC hours in Connecticut, but if you are looking for general supervision or consultation you can be based anywhere!

Investment: $90 per one-hour session

Cancellation Policy

Once an appointment is secured, the appointment holder is responsible for attending the appointment in a timely manner, in the format previously chosen by the appointment holder and clinical supervisor.

If appointments are cancelled less than 72 hours in advance, or in the event of a no-show, the appointment holder is responsible for the full cost of their session. This balance must be paid in full before further sessions can be scheduled. All payment is due upon receipt of services. An invoice will be provided to the appointment holder upon payment- I recommend you keep them for tax purposes and your own records!

Clients who cancel, late-cancel, or no-show are responsible for rescheduling with me, should they choose to do so. More than three cancellations within a three month period are grounds for discharge.

The frequency with which clients should be meeting with me for clinical supervision is at my discretion. Please note that I retain the right to refuse service or refer clients out for any reason. Please also note that clinical supervisors are ethically required to report concerns about licensing for clinicians in question under their clinical supervision. Completion of hours does NOT guarantee licensure, and I reserve the right to terminate the clinical supervision relationship at any time for any reason, which would be appropriately and adequately discussed with the client as an education or supervisory recommendation plan is implemented. I hold myself to a high ethical and clinical standard and promise to do so with my supervisees.

I will do my very best to never cancel sessions! Obviously things happen- the only times I would cancel sessions would be inappropriateness of fit, lack of payment, at the client’s request, or in the extreme case of an emergency on my end. My clients- and by extension, yours- are my main priority. Be assured that cancellations make me feel like I’m missing out, just as much as they do you. If for some reason I do need to cancel, I will do so as far in advance as possible! The good news is that video chatting mitigates need cancel sessions in most cases, so I will always try my best to offer an alternative that works for both of us!

Please note that all clinical supervisees are responsible for keeping track of their own license-eligible clinical supervision sessions
